(not yet) Finding a Work Routine

Our second workweek started on Easter Sunday (a belated Happy Easter to anyone who celebrated it!) and ended on Thursday. We haven’t really found a regular groove for working from afar, as we both have very different schedules, and the time difference can result in very long days. Having worked some very strange hours so far in my professional life, though, I quite enjoy doing it this way. A little bit more about our non-routine though here:

Most days, we get up around 8 am, and head off for breakfast at a nearby restaurant that we know offers free Wifi (have been evaluating the best ones near our apartment). We are both heavily addicted to fruit plates, and pretty much just stay put, at our table − ordering juices and tea, or a light lunch as we go en lieu of “rent” for this office space − until early afternoon, when we head back to our apartment.

Mid-afternoon, we try to get in some form of exercise (or alternately, a massage), continuing with our workday afterwards just as people in Switzerland start getting into their offices. The time difference of “five hours ahead” usually works in our favor, but can be a bit problematic; on some days, we simply end up working until the end of the Swiss business day, or about 10.30 pm our time.

In any case, we did just that from Sunday to Thursday … worked long days, interrupted only by quick motorcycle rides into town for supplies or meals, or to catch up on the latest “Game of Thrones” episodes (our current favorite TV series). So on our “normal working days”, if we fail to stop and get out on the road for some activity, things aren’t actually all that much different from what we would be doing in Switzerland.

But on Thursday, we took off for our first island experience.
