An der Nvision 2008 (Nvidia Event) hatten Kevin und Alex einen Gastauftritt. Da wir per Zufall gleich in der Umgebung waren, fuhren wir mit dem Caltrain (Public Transport in der USA!!!!). Auf der Hinreise lernten wir noch ein paar developer, developer, developer von digg kennen. Die Stimmung mit all den diggnation fans im Zug war der Hammer. Nach kurzer Wartezeit im Auditorium gings dann auch los mit ca. 500 Zuschauern. Der Podcast dieser Episode koennt ihr hier anschauen.

Autofriedhof Gürbetal

Genialer Ausflug nach Kaufdorf (BE) zum Autofriedhof Gürbetal. Der Rundgang durch die alten “Auto-Leichen” ist einmalig und lohnt sich nicht nur für Autofreaks. Wir haben das ganze mit einer kleinen Wanderung von Bern Belp über den Belpberg nach Kaufdorf kombiniert, die trotz des schlechten Wetters eine wunderschöne Aussicht auf das Gürbetal bot. Absolut abgefahrener Sound war heute im Herbert in Baden zu hören. Am Anfang dachte ich das muss wohl ein 1. April Scherz sein, nach kurzem Googlen, stellte sich trotzdem alles als “real” heraus. Die zwei Künster Thomas Rehnert und Jan Zimmermann (Berlin) haben ihre eigene Art Musik zu “erstellen”. Ich dachte mir: so muss sich also ein Fötus im Mutterleib fühlen. Im grossen und ganzen: Respekt für die Idee und Eigendynamik die Ihr Sound hat… trotzdem, länger hätte ich das Ganze nicht ausgehalten – so wirr – mmmppff zzziiiii chhrrrssttschhh ziii pffmmppfchhrrr mppszziiii

Im Mittelpunkt ihres gemeinsamen Projekts Round2/Runde2 steht ein Plattenspieler mit 3 Tonarmen, wovon einer die Schallplatte unverfälscht abspielt während die beiden weiteren von je einem der Spieler als Klangquelle zur Echtzeitbearbeitung dienen. Dazu benutzen die beiden Künstler ein annähernd identisches Setup von analogen Modularsynthesizern. Durch die Verwendung des gleichen Instrumentariums wie bei der Entstehung der Schallplatte ergibt sich eine enge Verwandtschaft zwischen den aufgenommenen und den neu entstehenden Klängen.
Der Umstand dass das Ausgangsmaterial permanent hörbar bleibt ermöglicht dem Zuhörer neben dem reinen Hörerlebnis die Eingriffe und Aktionen der Spieler nachzuvollziehen.

Swiss Snow Walk 2008

Participants: Phil, Mario, and MelLocation: Engelberg (canton Obwalden, for all of you who -like me- think it lies in the canton of Lucerne…)Event: Swiss Snow Walk, 18.5km Crazy Walk, longest of all routes, 600m in altitude differenceWeather: really, really, really bad…Yet we made it to the end in just under four hours, coming in last but happy to have crossed the finish line!I had seen a flyer for the event while waiting for the train, and had convinced Phil and Mario to join, since I thought that it would be the typical marathon-all-these-sporty-people-together feeling. Early morning we spent three hours on the train, only to be welcomed by horrendous weather, and no snow beyond little ugly patches, in Engelberg. The town may look nice when all the houses are covered with a white sheet of snow, but it is certainly nothing to write home about when this is not the case. One day spent in Engelberg is just enough for a lifetime-Anyhow, our group started first, and we soon realized, that we were a) the only people walking without those annoying sticks that disturb nature and get in ones way all the time, b) the youngest three people there, and c) the only people determined to enjoy our walk as opposed to hurrying through it determined to win. These three points resulted in our being the last three people to cross the finish line, just before the cut-off time, while they were already packing up.Memorable moments: Getting up to the highest point of our walk and being welcomed by staff with Gatorade-like drinks and chocolate cereal, almost being blown away by the wind on our way down, having hail blown into our faces, Phil and Mario’s practicing their beat-boxing skills (“If your mother only knew…”), and Phil’s wind and weather-defying gas!!!Thanks for joining.
